IPSWICH WANDERERS 4 v. CLACTON TOWN 0
RIDGEONS PREMIER LEAGUE
TUESDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2005
Manager Jason Dozzell made one change to the starting lineup, bringing in Lee Smith in place of Terry Layton. A lively 76 spectators were enjoying a mild breezy evening that saw a pitch drying out after the recent rains.
Clacton made a spirited start but it was Ricky Martin’s lob on 7 mins that avoided the goal that had Wanderers moving into attack mode. The first goal came on 14 mins when Alan Mills’ low, hard cross was edged for a corner which Jorrell Hurd took. Jason Dozzell headed the ball on from the near post, only for it rebound off the cross bar, but Rene Swann burst through the crowd of players to bundle it over the line. Almost from the restart, Clacton put together a slick passing move down the left that ended with Daniels volleying over the bar from a good position, with Jamie Stannard watching closely.
On 19 mins Bardley Barber sent a free kick under the bar and then a corner, both of which were dealt with by an impressive Fleming in the Clacton goal. Alan Mills was nearly on target on 23 mins as he charged in from the left. It was 2-0 on 25 mins when Ricky Martin’s cross from the right was picked up by Jorrell Hurd who put the ball into the 6yd box where Rene Swann turned to shoot past a despairing Fleming.
On 28 mins, Clacton’s free kick went over Jamie Stannard’s head for a corner and he claimed the kick in emphatic style when under pressure from several Clacton players. He was then forced to save at the feet of Sharpe as he rushed through on goal. For the next 15 mins, Clacton hardly saw the Wanderers half, winning just one corner, and Jamie Stannard, in the Wanderers goal only touched the ball three times, such was Wanderers’ dominance.
Right on the half time whistle Lee Smith’s deep cross from the right was met by the head of Ricky Martin and the ball flew into the net to bring up the half time score of

In Clacton’s first attack of the 2nd half, Daniels backheader was seen late by Jamie Stannard and he did well to push the ball round the post. Wanderers strikers were becoming too anxious to increase the goal tally and were starting to be caught offside. On 58 mins Jamie Baker tested the netting behind the goal with a fierce volley from Jorrell Hurd’s first time cross and this set up a series of corners. Then Lee Smith’s pass to Keith Hetherington was blasted wide as Wanderers piled on the pressure. After 65 mins, Wanderers relaxed their grip and gave Clacton a glimpse of a way back into the game, but then Rene Swann showed his credentials in the Clacton area with several attempts on goal, to put the pressure back on the hard working visitors.
Lee Smith had to be quick to chase back to deny Proske a chance after the Clacton no.11 had taken advantage of a slip by Chris Tracey, back for his first game since injury.
As the game came to its conclusion, Rene Swann nearly notched his hat trick with a header that hit the post from Jamie Baker’s corner and then Keith Hetherington got the fourth to seal a rather one-sided victory as he stooped to head home Jorrell Hurd’s free kick.
