LOWESTOFT TOWN 3 v. IPSWICH WANDERERS 1
RIDGEONS PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER 2005
It was a surprisingly warm mid October afternoon. Wanderers’ manager JasonDozzell was without defensive partner Chris Tracey and he decided on the option of a lone striker, leaving Rene Swann & Keith Hetherington on the bench. Lowestoft were in attack right from the whistle and they opened the scoring on four minutes. A high ball into the 6 yard box was spilled by ‘keeper Jamie Stannard and in the panic to clear, Matthew Cunningham brought down Roach to allow Woodrow to put the spot kick high to Jamie Stannard’s right.
An injury to Mark Goldfinch on 9 minutes looked serious but he was able to continue after lengthy treatment. Wanderers had not started the game well but by 21 minutes were having more of the play, although they were not troubling Lowestoft ‘keeper Reynolds. Then Jorrell Hurd, who was tormenting Potter with his runs down the right, put the ball into the area where Dean Tournay-Godfrey held off a strong challenge to shoot on the turn, low to Reynold’s right, for the equaliser.

Such was the warm weather that the players took every opportunity to top up on fluids during breaks in play. Wanderers came close twice more in the half; a corner from Jamie Baker was cleared off the line by Potter and Jorrell Hurd’s cross was missed by Dean Tournay-Godfrey in front of goal when unsighted.

Within 3 minutes of the restart Lowestoft went back into the lead with the simplest of goals. Woodrow’s free kick from 30 yards was met by Roach, stooping low to head home in the 6 yard box. Wanderers were now having less possession than in the first half and struggling against a determined Lowestoft side. Woodrow ran virtually half the length of the pitch to bring a fingertip save from Jamie Stannard and then, on the hour, Mark Goldfinch brought down Stokeld in the area for Woodrow to notch up his 2nd penalty of the afternoon.
Wanderers were under the cosh and their play became slack and undisciplined.

Despite using all three substitutes and playing 3 strikers, Wanderers were being overrun and it was only desperate defending that kept the score to three. As the game went on, Wanderers lost their shape and were being run ragged and it was only the final whistle the saved them from further punishment.
